HP TouchSmart Desktop PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Problems in Vista

This support document pertains to HP TouchSmart PCs with Windows Vista.

Pressing the touch screen does not do anything

Pressing the touch screen in Windows or the TouchSmart software does non do anything - the mouse pointer does non move or objects are not highlighted.

Perform each of the following steps until the mouse pointer moves to a point that is touched on the Windows desktop:

  1. Clean the screen.

    With the computer off, spray glass cleaner onto a soft, damp cloth and gently wipe the screen to remove dirt and smudges. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the screen. Give special attention to the upper left and right inside edges of the screen. Turn the computer on when finished.

    Press the screen to see if it responds. If not, continue.

  2. Plow off the calculator from the Get-go menu, and unplug the power cord.

  3. With the ability cord unplugged, press the power button on the computer instance and wait 5 seconds.

  4. Plug in the power cord, and press the ability button to turn on the computer.

    Press the screen to see if information technology responds. If not, continue.

  5. Make sure that touch and audio is enabled as follows:

    1. Click Start , and then Control Panel.

    2. Click Hardware & Audio.

    3. Gyre downwardly and click HP Impact Screen Configuration.

    4. From the Global Settings tab, make sure Touch Screen and Bear on Screen Audio are selected (Enabled).

    5. Click Save, and then click Close.

  6. Restart the computer (again).

    Printing the screen to see if it responds. If not, continue.

    note:

    Afterward enabling Touch Screen Sound, y'all can printing the screen but later the figurer starts. When the bear upon screen is pressed, a soft audible noise should be heard. If a sound is heard when the impact screen is pressed, the touch screen hardware is functional and the problem is probably related to scale and software. If no sound is heard when the touch screen is pressed, the bear on screen hardware might require service.

  7. Calibrate the TouchScreen using the following steps:

    1. Find a pencil that has a clean eraser on one end.

    2. Press the Scroll Lock key on the keyboard 5 times.

    3. Touch anywhere on the screen and the mouse pointer moves to the upper left of the screen.

    4. Gently touch the eraser to the mouse pointer and concur it until a beep is heard - most 1 second.

    5. Release the eraser and the mouse pointer travels to another expanse of the screen.

    6. Continue touching the eraser to the mouse pointer and releasing it until the mouse pointer moves to the center of the screen.

    Press the screen to see if it responds. If not, keep.

  8. If the touch screen still does not work, use Microsoft System Restore to restore the organisation to a time when information technology was working. If the touch screen never worked, skip this footstep.

    Press the screen to run across if information technology responds. If not, continue.

  9. If the touch screen even so does not work, utilize HP System Recovery to restore the organization to its original system configuration.

    Press the screen to meet if it responds. If not, proceed.

  10. If the touch screen still does not piece of work, the estimator should be serviced.

A touch occurs next to the point touched, not at the signal of touch

If you suspect that affect functionality is not working correctly, go to the Windows desktop and printing the wallpaper background. If the mouse pointer moves directly under the tip of your finger, touch functionality is working correctly. Mouse pointer moves to upper left of screen regardless of where the screen is touched

The Coil Lock key was pressed 5 times causing a bear upon calibration session to start. To set, terminate the calibration:

  1. Printing anywhere on the screen and the mouse pointer moves to the upper left.

  2. Printing and hold over the mouse pointer until a beep is heard.

  3. Release your finger and the mouse pointer travels to another area of the screen.

  4. Proceed pressing and releasing over the mouse pointer until the mouse pointer moves to the heart of the screen.
